There is no single re-entry time for every disinfection treatment. The selected product, its instructions, the application method and conditions in the space determine the return-to-use guidance.
Ask before the appointment
A generic number of minutes cannot account for different products and methods. Ask what will be used, which zones must be vacated and how the return instructions will be communicated.
If a provider has not yet assessed the property or selected a product, treat any exact waiting time as provisional rather than a confirmed plan.
Contact time and re-entry are different
Contact time concerns the time a product must remain on a treated surface under its directions. Re-entry guidance concerns when people can return or resume normal use. Completing one does not automatically establish that every other instruction has been satisfied.
Drying, rinsing where required and ventilation may also need attention. Use the actual product directions and agreed handover, not smell as a test of readiness.
Plan for the household or workplace
Discuss children, pets, people who cannot leave easily and any rooms that must remain available. In a business, tell the provider the required reopening time. Access constraints can change the method or make a proposed visit unsuitable.
At handover
Confirm which areas were treated and whether any remain restricted. Keep written instructions available for anyone arriving later. If guidance is unclear or conditions differ from the plan, contact the treatment team before reopening the space.
